Shelly Becker has a story to tell. A self-taught artist, she will debut her exhibit “Plot Twist” in the International Languages Gallery of the Cleveland Public Library. A Dayton native and a transplant from New Mexico, Shelly now calls Cleveland home. Since childhood, she has dreamed of creating original works that possess the power to inspire and captivate viewers. Her journey began with producing small works of art as a mental health exercise and has since blossomed into a full-fledged creative endeavor.
Shelly draws inspiration from her surroundings, and her life is encapsulated by the boundless bounty of the natural world. Ultimately, she hopes to encourage children to follow their creative impulses and make the world a more beautiful place.
Shelly’s art is deeply rooted in her personal experiences, reflecting her resilience and belief in art as a therapeutic avenue for emotional expression and healing. Despite facing profound challenges in life, including the tragic loss of her older brother, life as a young military widow, and her battle with cancer, Shelly draws strength and solace from her art. She hopes to connect with others who have endured similar pain, reminding them that they are not alone in their suffering and that there is hope.
